Cougars Get Mauled 40-0 In Classic West Island Rivalry

The Lions
overwhelmed their West Island rivals, the Lakeshore Cougars, yesterday
to the tune of 40-0 and continued to make their mark in the QBFL by
remaining as the only undefeated team in their division.
Offensively, the Lions began scoring on their opening drive when
Andrew Hopkins ran the ball in from 10 yards out for the first TD of
the game. Receiver Chris Cione hauled in a 9 yarder from Vincent
Bourgon for his first TD of the year while Kevin Kyere and Davide
Santilli also got their first majors for the season as well.
Taevon Nesfield got another special teams TD when he ran back a
Lakeshore punt into the Cougars' endzone .
The Lions defense
dominated the game right from the start and Shawn Steen played a
phenomenal game where along with connecting on all 5 converts as a
kicker, he also made 3 interceptions on the Lakeshore offense. A
total of seven sacks were made by the defense. Glody Bomolo added
3 more to his team-leading total while Trevor Cernivz got 2 others and
led the defense with 6 tackles. The rest were recorded by Patrick
Smith, Thomas Quinn, who also came up with a fumble recovery, and
Dimitri Divolis, who blocked a punt later in the game. Kyle
McGuigan got 2 more fumble recoveries of his own while the defense as a
unit was credited with 4 points on 2 safeties that were conceded by
Lakeshore when they were pinned deep in their own end.
Next week, the
Lions continue their road trip where their next stop will be at Jeanne
Mance Park. They will take on the Sun Youth Hornets on Saturday,
Sept. 13th at 17:00.
