Lions Finish String of Road Games With 49-0 Win Over Sun Youth

The Lions wrapped
up their road trip last night with another shutout beating the Sun
Youth Hornets by a score of 49-0. With the bulk of the scoring
being produced in the first half, the game opened up with a spectacular
70 yard bomb from Maxx St. James to Simon Lacroix for the
first TD of the game. On the ground, running back Matthew John added
two more TD's to his season's total while Eric Locas and St. James
got one each. Receiver Jelani McLaren got his first TD of the year on a
halfback option pass from Sammy Mesidor towards the end of the first
half. Kicker Shaquille Lattimore was successful on all 6 converts
and 2 field goals.
Although the
defense played well enough to secure another shutout, it found itself
in what might have been the most precarious situation it had to face
all year. After a series of successful plays by the Hornets
offence followed by a penalty on the Lions defense, it was first down
and goal on North Shore's 4 yard line when a bad snap by the Hornets
sailed over the head of the Sun Youth QB which resulted in a footrace
to recover the loose ball. Defensive end Kyle Macgregor won the
race and jumped on the ball for his second of two fumble recoveries and
stopped the Hornets offence dead in its tracks. Kevin Slawter
also got a fumble recovery during the game while Shaquille Lattimore
and Taevon Nesfield each came up with an interception. Greg Lee
was a key for the defense getting 6 tackles.
Next week, the
Lions are back home at Riverdale to finish off their regular
season where they will host the Lasalle Warriors in what is to be one
of the most anticipated games for the Lions this year. The game
is on Friday, October 12th at 20:00.
