Lions defeat St. Laurent Spartans 22 - 7.

Lions now 7 - 0.

The North Shore Lions defeated the St. Laurent Spartans 22 - 7 on Sunday afternoon at Parc St. Laurent.

The Lions current winning streak is now at 76 games.

On a wet and soggy Sunday, on a sloppy and muddy field, the North Shore Lions notched another win.  The St. Laurent Spartans and their vaunted running attack were rendered ineffective by the North Shore Lions defense, which for the 3rd game in a row did not give up a major score.
The Lions scored the first points of the game on a 4 yard run by Kevin Kyere, his 9th touchdown of the season, at the 4:26 mark of the first quarter.  On the very next series the Lions defense came up with an interception by Anthony Melotti which gave the Lions excellent field position deep in Spartans territory.  Jersey Henry then ran the ball in from the 10 yard line and after the successfull extra point the Lions were up 14 - 0 in the 1st quarter.  In the 2nd quarter after another Lions interception, this time by defensive back Benoit Mailly, the Lions converted that turnover into a 20 yard field goal by Shawn Steen.  At halftime the score was 17 - 0 for the Lions.

In the second half, two minutes in, the Spartans quickly scored a touchdown on an interception return from midfield all away into the endzone, cutting the Lions lead down to 17 - 7.  However, the Lions defense continued to stand tall and didn't give the Spartans any offensive momentum at all.
The Lions offense then started pounding the rock, and running out huge amount of time on the clock.  With 2:54 left in the third quarter the Lions kicked another field goal, a 35 yard boot from Shawn Steen.
In the fourth quarter the Lions defense once again pinned the Spartans deep in their territory forcing the Spartans to give up a 2 point safety for the final points of the game and a 22 -7 victory for the Lions.

The Lions next game will be played at Riverdale Park on Friday Oct. 2 at 20:00 vs the Sun Youth Hornets.
