Success On The Road Continues With 50-0 Win Over St. Leonard

The Lions
continued their streak of successive wins yesterday afternoon as they
handily beat the St. Leonard Cougars by a score of 50-0. The tone
was set right from the beginning as Matthew John ran back the opening
kickoff for a touchdown. From there, the Lions offensive machine
started to do its work and produced more scores with running back Sammy
Mesidor getting 2 TD's along with Andrew Hopkins and Matthew John
getting one each. The only passing TD of the afternoon came from
a 19 yard reception by Damian Hirt from QB Maxx St. James, who
incidently also ran in for a two point convert on that same touchdown.
Hopkins was successful on 6 convert attempts. Oddly enough,
as a result of a series of successive turnovers, the Lions offense was
not on the field at all during the second quarter. This limited
the amount of yardage they were able to generate and took them off of
their previous average of 400 yards per game.
The Lions defense
proved once again that they are a force to be reckoned with. Shaquille
Lattimore came up with his second interception return for a TD this
year. Luka Ricard also came up with a pick and Phil Hebert
blocked a punt earlier in the game to give the Lions offense great
field position. Defensive end Irving Fosu got the only QB sack of
the game. Linebackers Kevin Kilbourne and Aldo Cione were key
players for the defense getting 6 tackles each.
Next week, the
Lions continue their road trip where their next stop will be in
Richelieu. They will take on the Pirates at Parc Polybel on Sunday,
Sept. 30th at 2:00.
