Hornets Get Stung 51-0

The Lions
continued to pick apart the rest of the QBFL last night as they made
the Sun Youth Hornets their latest victims by beating them 51-0 in a
game where 8 minutes of the first half were lost to the need to attend
to injuries on the field.
Although they are
no longer holding a 400 yard per game average, the offense was still
firing on all cylinders last night. The drop in average is surely
due to the fact that there was limited field time for the offense to
work their magic since the last 8 minutes of the first half were not played and the clock was running for the entire
second half. Leading the way on the ground were running backs
Matthew John and Andrew Hopkins with two TD's apiece. QB Vince
Bourgon also ran one in from 5 yards out in the third quarter. Chris
Coll caught 3 passes for 85 yards and his second TD of the year.
Shaquille Lattimore connected on 6 converts and had another
productive night on defense as well coming up with a big interception
in the first quarter. The remaining points were on a touchback by
Simon Lacroix when a punt was kicked into the Sun Youth endzone and on
a safety by the defense when the Hornets conceded in their own end.
Defensively, the
Lions were impenetrable as they held the Hornets to only 16 yards in
rushing and actually managed to push them back negative 10 yards in
passing. The Hornets did not complete one pass against the Lions
defense. Defensive back Alex Grace also got an interception and
he ran that one back for his first defensive TD of the season.
Greg Lee got the only QB sack of the night for the Lions and
Kevin Kilbourne led the defense with 4 solo tackles and 2 fumble
recoveries. More fumbles were recovered by Kevin Slawter, Kyle
Macgregor and Irving Fosu.
The Lions are back
on the road for the next four weeks where they will be playing four
away games in a row. Their first stop will be in Greenfield Park
where they will meet the Packers for the second time this year.
The game is at Pierre Laporte Park at 20:00 on Friday, Sept.
14th.
