Big Win Over Richelieu Despite Slow Start
The
Lions won
big again last night beating the Richelieu Pirates 59-0 despite a
number of miscues and a slow start from their offense. During
the first half, the offense was considerably less sharp in its
execution than it had been in recent games but a solid performance
from the Lions defense and special teams gave them the time they needed
to regroup and find the groove that they needed to be in to come up
with a big win.
A total of 6 rushing TD's were produced by the offense with running
back Matthew John getting two of them. Sammy Mesidor, Evan Wiley,
Andrew Hopkins, and Vince Bourgon got the remaining four. The
special teams were particularly strong last night with Alex Grace
running a punt back for a TD and Sammy Mesidor doing the same with a
kickoff. Shaquille Lattimore was perfect on all 8 converts and
also scored a single point when a kick went through the opposing
endzone. The remaining two points came on a saftey when the
Richelieu offense was backed up in their own end and conceded in their
endzone.
Defensively, the Lions were as strong as ever with linebackers Kevin
Kilbourne and Alex Gascon registering 7 tackles apiece. Nick
Gaudreault and Taevon Nesfield each came up with an interception and QB
sacks were recorded by Phil Hebert, Mark Continelli and Dimitri Divolis
who also picked up a fumble late in the fourth quarter.
The Lions will get a bit of a break after a tough week before they
begin to prepare for a big game next Saturday, which will be their
first game on the road this season, against the Lasalle Warriors where
they will battle for first place in the Bill Allan division. The
game is at Keith Ewenson field in Lasalle at 7:00 PM.
