Lions Beat St. Leonard 40-12

The Lions continue
their winning streak with a 40-12 victory over the St. Leonard Cougars.
The game had a rough start for the Lions as the Cougars drove the
ball effectively and eventually took a 7-0 lead over the Lions.
North Shore regained its composure and came back with a beautiful
70 yard TD bomb from Matt Leblanc to Sammy Mesidor to even out the
scoring. From that point they never looked back as more
touchdowns came from Ross Olshansky, Jean-Fritz Charles, Richie Elias,
Matt Leblanc, and Spencer Karls. Joey Fulginiti was successful on
4 convert attempts. St. Leonard completed their scoring with a
field goal late in the game and a defensive safety when Lions QB
Leblanc slipped and fell in his own end zone.
Defensively for the
Lions, big plays were made by Joey Fulginiti and Tristan Durn Rothwell
who each had an interception. Oliver Bernardi and Markens Vilme
each came up with a fumble recovery as well. Linebacker Kevin
Kilbourne made a key QB sack to stop a St. Leonard scoring drive close
to the Lions end-zone and Jesse St. James blocked a field goal attempt
by the Cougars later in the game. The Lions defensive line were
particularly effective in their pass rush as they were credited with
many batted down passes from the St. Leonard QB.
Next week the Lions
travel to Greenfield Park to take on the Packers for what will be
a grudge match from last year's provincial final. The game is on
Saturday, August 26th at 19:30 at Pierre Laporte Park. We hope to
see you all there.
