Win 2009 Home Opener 43 - 0 vs West Island Rivals Lakeshore Cougars
The
first encounter of the season between the West Island rivals ended in a
one sided victory for the North Shore Lions, 43 - 0 over the Lakeshore
Cougars.
North Shore extended their current winning streak to 71 games.
The Lions started the game slowly, putting up only 13 points in the
first half on a touchdown score by Cedric Joseph sandwiched between 2
field goals by Shawn Steen.
In the second half the Lions came out on fire and started working
harder and putting up the points. After forcing the Cougars
to
give up a safety early in the thrid quarter. The Lions rolled off
4 consecutive touchdowns to put the game away. Touchdowns in the
second half were scored by Kevin Kyere on a short running play.
Then Marco Rossi playing for the first time this year
scored on another run up the middle. Eric Paquette then
picked off a
pass near midfield and dipsy-doodled his way to the endzone.
Finally, David Byrns also scored his first touchdown of the
season on a beautiful 25 yard scamper.
The defense played another superb game, not giving the Lakeshore
Cougars any chance to mount a consistent offensive threat. The
Lions picked off several passes during the game, returning 1 for a
score and nearly returned another for a second score, Shawn Steen
intercepted a pass and returned the ball all the way back to the
Cougars goal line before fumbling the ball.
The
defense hasn't given up a scoring play in 2 games this season.
The Lions next game will be played at home on August 28th 8:00 PM at Riverdale against the Laurentien Wildcats.
