30 Championships in 40 Years!

Lions Are 2007 Provincial Champions

The Lions have claimed the provincial championship for 2007 as they successfully defended their title against the Laprairie Diablos by a score of 51-7 yesterday at McGill's Molson Stadium. This gives the Lions their 30th provincial title in the 40 years that they have existed as a team.  Receiver Simon Lacroix earned the honours of being named the game MVP by turning in a spectacular performance as he hauled in 5 passes for 116 yards and three touchdowns.  His first two TD's came from veteran QB Maxx St. James while his third came from first-year pivot Vincent Bourgon later in the fourth quarter.  The leading rusher for the day was running back Eric Locas who carried the ball 8 times for 69 yards and 1 TD.  Other offensive TD's came from Jelani McLaren on a 13 yard pass from St. James and Andrew Hopkins on a 4 yard run in the second quarter.  Alex Grace got his third punt return TD this season and Shaquille Lattimore was perfect on all 7 converts.  The remaining 2 points came on a safety by the defence.

The defence, once again, played a typically strong game as they shut down the Diablos offence early in the game .  A total of 4 sacks were registered by Mark Continelli, Greg Lee, Kyle Macgregor, Kevin Slawter, Alex Gascon and Brandon Ferrarelli, who also came up with an interception and a fumble recovery during the game.  Nick Gaudreault and Shaquille Lattimore also got an interception each.  Linebackers Greg Lee and Luka Ricard led the defence with 7 tackles each.

The Lions are now set to enjoy a bit of a break from the long season before getting back into action again with their off-season training so that they can be in top form to defend their title in 2008.
