Lions Advance To Provincials With 55-26 Playoff Win Over Rhinos

The Lions will be
heading to the Provincial Championship game next weekend as they have
just beat the Lanaudiere Rhinos 55-26 in the crossover playoff
game last night. The Rhinos proved to be a tough and well
disciplined team as they handed the Lions their toughest competition
yet this year. At this point in the season, only the best teams
are still alive in the playoffs and it shows that no team can be taken
lightly.
The offence had an
extremely strong game producing 537 yards in total. QB Maxx St.
James completed 13 passes for 175 yards and one TD. Receiver
Simon Lacroix had a huge game getting 4 receptions for 135 yards and 2
TD's, his second being a 60 yarder from first year QB Vincent Bourgon on
the last play of the game. Jordan Tyrrell also had a very strong
performance with 5 catches for 50 yards. On the ground, the Lions
were as powerful as ever as Sammy Mesidor carried the ball 11 times for
102 yards and 2 TD's. Eric Locas also had an outstanding game with 13
carries for 85 yards and 1 major. Other rushing TD's were scored by
Evan Wiley, Andrew Hopkins and Matthew John. Shaquille Lattimore
connected on 5 converts and the remaining 2 points came on a safety by
the defence.
Defensively, the
Lions struggled a bit in coping with the Rhino's passing attack but
turned in a strong performance overall to ensure the win.
Shaquille Lattimore was outstanding with 3 interceptions and linebacker Alex Gascon led the defence with 8 tackles.
At this point,
the Lions know that their opponents in the Provincial Championship
game next weekend will be the Laprairie Diablos, however, it is still
unclear whether the game will be played on Saturday or Sunday.
The game is slated to be played at McGill's Molson stadium.
More details will be announced once they become available.
