Lions Battle Mud & Rain Again to Advance In Playoffs Over Warriors 20-0

The Lions had to contend with the elements again on another cold and rainy night to advance in the playoffs 20-0 against a very tough and determined bunch of Lasalle Warriors.  This time, the rain and the extremely muddy field at Riverdale proved to be the equalizers in the game as either offense had a lot of trouble making any progress keeping the score tied at 0-0 well into the third quarter.  The ice was finally broken when Sammy Mesidor capped off the first decent drive for the Lions with a 12 yard run into the endzone for the first score of the night.  With the momentum now on their side, the Lions continued to find success with a spectacular 70 yard sprint by Spencer Karls for another major.  The scoring was rounded out by a 22 yard TD pass from Matt Leblanc to Richie Elias later in the fourth quarter.  Joey Fulginiti was successful on 2 converts.

As conditions were in favour of a defensive game, the Lions defense was true to form again as they put on a rock solid performance to keep the Lions in the game.  In all, the defense produced 6 QB sacks.  Francis "Gédéon" Richard led the defense with two and a half sacks.  Ben Heazle came up with two while defensive end Kyle MacGregor got one.  Linebacker Jesse St. James had a whale of a game with 7 solo tackles, 3 blocked punts and half a QB sack.

Next week, although the Lions will still be at home, the game will be held at the DDO II (McHugh) field in DDO across from the Civic Center.  The game is scheduled for Saturday, November 4th at 18:00.  Their opponent is still to be determined pending the outcome of the final game from the Metro Bantam league.
