Lions Are Off To QBFL Championship With Dramatic 48-28 Come From Behind Victory Over St. Bruno

The North Shore Lions are on their way to the QBFL championship after a dramatic 48-28 come from behind victory over the St. Bruno Barons in the semi-finals that were played at McHugh field in DDO.

On North Shore's opening drive, things looked promising for the Lions as they struck paydirt right away with an 11 yard QB keeper by Vince Bourgon.  Kyeon Nicely threw a devastating block on a Baron defender that allowed Bourgon to score.  From that point on, for the rest of the half, it seemed that the Lions had fallen asleep as it was obvious that the Barons were more eager to play the game.  The offence was having difficulty moving the ball while the defense was literally standing there watching the Barons run by them, and the Lions went into halftime with their backs against the wall on the wrong end of a 15-7 score.

Halftime gave the Lions the opportunity to do some soul searching and make some adjustments and it seemed to have worked because the second half was played by a completely different Lions team than the one that had shown up for the first half. Andrew Hopkins, Ernst Pierre and Tyrin Rose-Eisan got the running game going and each contributed a rushing TD in the process.  The passing game was also kickstarted as QB Bourgon had found receivers Jordan Tyrell, Kyeon Nicely and Chris Cione through the air for one TD apiece.  Shawn Steen was successful on 6 convert attempts.

Once the defense had woken up in the second half they completely shut down the St. Bruno offence allowing only one TD after a questionable penalty had them pinned deep in their own end.  Patrick Smith once again led the defense with 6 tackles while Killian Moore and Taevon Nesfield each came up with an interception.  Chris Watson recovered a fumble on a kickoff which gave the Lions another scoring opportunity in the second half.

The Lions have now earned the right to play in the QBFL championship game which is scheduled to be played on Sunday, November 16th at 12:00 at Stade Hébert in St. Leonard.  They will face the winner of the other semi-final game between the St. Leonard Cougars and Laurentian Wildcats.

Update:  It is now confirmed that our opponents in the QBFL final will be the St. Leonard Cougars.
