49-8 Victory Over Lakeshore Advances Lions Into Next Round Of Playoffs

The Lions pulled
off a 49-8 win over a very tough and tenacious Lakeshore Cougar team to
advance to the next round in the playoffs where they will crossover
with a team from the Montreal Metro Football League for the right to
play in the upcoming Provincial Championship game.
On offense, despite
a number of miscues and timing issues, the running game was extremely
potent generating 478 yards in rushing. Sammy Mesidor had a huge
game carrying the ball 8 times for 189 yards and 2 TD's, including one
that went for 100 yards. Evan Wiley had 6 carries for 106 yards and one
TD while Andrew Hopkins had 7 carries for 100 yards and one TD as well.
Other rushing TD's were scored by Matthew John, Eric Locas, and
Ernst Pierre. Simon Lacroix was successful with 5 converts.
The remaining 2 points came on a safety by the defence.
Although the Lions
defence was scored on by the Cougars they still had a strong game as
they managed to shut down several drives in the game where the Cougars
were threatening to score. A total of 6 QB sacks were recorded by
Greg Lee, Mark Continelli, Kyle Macgregor, Phil Hebert and Kevin
Kilbourne. Kevin Slawter and Alex Grace led the defence with 7
tackles apiece.
As
the Lions wait
to see how the playoffs in the MMFL play out to see who they will face
in the next round, they do know that they have already earned
home-field advantage for that game. The game is tentatively
scheduled for next Sunday, November 4th at McHugh field in DDO.
Details will be
announced once they have been finalized.
