Short But Sweet......

In what may be one
of the strangest finishes for a game in QBFL history, the Lions capped
off a perfect regular season by claiming a 41-1 victory over the St.
Lazare Stallions. With 9:48 remaining in the third quarter, St.
Lazare decided that they had had enough of the onslaught from the
mighty Lions and threw in the towel, handing the Lions their tenth win
of the season and a perfect record heading into the playoffs next week.
The Lions offense
was virtually unstoppable as they opened the scoring on the second play
of the game with a 60 yard TD bomb from Matt Leblanc to Richie Elias. Running back Eric Locas had
a big night getting two TD's on the ground while Leblanc connected with
Robin Schmidt (65 yds) and Ross Olshansky (55 yds) for more TD's in the
air. Joey Fulginiti was once again a force to be reckoned with on
defense as he came up with another interception that was run in for a
touchdown, this time for a 55 yard return. He was also successful
on 5 converts. Olshansky's TD was never converted as St. Lazare
had forfeited the rest of the game immediately after that play.
Despite a solid
performance by the Lions defense, they did not seem to keep up the
momentum that they had built up over the past three games, giving up
over 200 yards of total offense in less than three quarters of play.
They still managed to hold the Stallions to only one point on a
missed field goal attempt. Along with Fulginiti, the main play
makers were Jesse St. James who got a sack and a blocked field goal
attempt and Kyle MacGregor who came up with a fumble recovery.
Prior to the
begining of the game, the Lions were presented with the Bill Allan Divisional
championship trophy by league president Kathy McNair as they had
already clinched that title after their win last week.
With the regular
season now behind them, the
Lions start preparing for their first playoff game which will be
against the Laurentian Wildcats. The game is now rescheduled to be at
Riverdale next Friday, October 20th at 20:00.
