Lions
finish regular season 9 - 1.
The
North Shore Lions lose to the Laurentien Wildcats 20 -15 on Saturday
afternoon
at Parc Ducharme in Ste. Therese.
The inevitable finally happened, after almost 6 full seasons of
football, the Lions lost.
At a packed Parc Ducharme, the local fans as well as
other visiting fans, witnessed the Wildcats do something that hasn't
been done in 6 years.
The game started off slowly as both teams had a couple of 3 and outs.
The Lions were first to get on the scoreboard at 7:06 of the 1st
quarter with a 35 yard field goal by #20 Shawn Steen. The
Wildcats responded with their first touchdown of the game with 2:28
left in the 1st quarter on a 1 yard running play, the extra point was
no good. In the 2nd quarter the Lions added 2 more field goals
by Shawn Steen, 15 and 25 yards. At the end of the half the
Lions led 9 - 6.
The 2nd half started slowly for both teams as they failed to do
anything in the 3rd quarter. In the 4th quarter the Wildcats
stunned the Lions and exhilarated the crowd on a long pass play to take
them deep into Lions territory and then scored on a 2 yard pass play
with 12:05 left in the game. Then the Wildcats followed that up
with another touchdown with 5:44 left to take a 20 - 9 lead.
With less than 2 minutes left in the game the Lions scored on a 10 yard
pass play to #12 Jaylan Grandison, however that was all they could
muster and the game ended 20 -15 for the Wildcats.
The Lions next game will be at home to start the playoffs against
the Lasalle Warriors.
