Lions End Regular Season Undefeated Beating Lasalle 41-13

The Lions ended
their regular season undefeated when they beat the Lasalle Warriors
41-13 and the game proved to be every bit it was anticipated to be as
the Warriors provided the Lions with the stiffest competition they had
faced all year.
The Lions opened up
the scoring in the first quarter with Matthew John capping off a long
drive with a 3 yard dive into the endzone. Other rushing
touchdowns were scored by Evan Wiley on a 25 yard run in the second
quarter along with Sammy Mesidor and Andrew Hopkins with one TD each later in the second half.
The Lions special teams had another strong night.
Alex Grace got his second punt return TD for the season while a
kickoff was returned for a TD by Simon Lacroix who was also good on 5
convert attempts.
Defensively, the
Lions were put to the test like no other time this year as they faced a
relentless and rather effective passing attack by the Warrior offence.
Despite having had the most points scored on them all year the
defence still managed to find opportunities to shine. A total of
six QB sacks were registered by the defence with Kevin Slawter getting
2 of them. The remainder were shared by Mark Baroudi, Kevin
Kilbourne, Phil Hebert and Mark Continelli. Shaquille Lattimore
came up with a fumble recovery while Aldo Cione blocked a
convert.
After the game, the
Lions were presented with the Bill Allen trophy by QBFL president Kathy
McNair for having won first place in the Bill Allen division for the
2007 season.
Next week, the
Lions begin the playoffs with the first game being against the
Greenfield Park Packers. The game is at Riverdale on Friday,
October 19th at 20:00.
