Lions Open 2008 Season With 22-7 Win Over St. Leonard
The
North Shore Lions began their 2008 campaign on the road by beating the
St. Leonard Cougars 22-7 at Stade Hébert. QB Vincent
Bourgon opened the scoring in the first quarter with a 1 yard keeper
for the Lions' first TD of the year. Running Back Andrew Hopkins
had a big day carrying the ball 13 times for 113 yards and 1 TD.
He also caught a 46 yard TD pass from Bourgon for his second
major of the day and scored a single point when a kickoff sailed
through the St. Leonard endzone later in the game. Receiver Kyeon
Nicely came up big with 5 receptions for 62 yards and Chris Cione
got 2 more for 45 yards. Rookie Running Back Kevin Kyere showed
that he will be a force this year with 5 carries for 42 yards.
Kicker Shawn Steen was perfect on all 3 converts.
Defensively, the Lions struggled a bit during St. Leonard's opening
drive when the Cougars marched the ball down the field for their only
score of the game. After that, the defense began to settle in and
find their groove by stopping all the Cougars offensive drives.
Linebacker Kyle McGuigan led the defense with 6 solo tackles.
QB sacks were recorded by Steven Gill, Dimitri Divolis, and Glody
Bomolo who also came up with a fumble recovery. Other fumbles
were recovered by Francis Chiquette and Irving Fosu while Patrick Smith
came up with the first interception of the year for the Lions defense.
The Lions will be playing their home opener against Lasalle this Friday night,
August 22nd at 8:00 PM at Riverdale.
