Lions Off To A Roaring Start With 49-6 Win Over St. Leonard
After
last week's disappointment of having their first game postponed, the
Lions finally got their 40th season under way last night at Riverdale
by hosting the St. Leonard Cougars and beating them by a decisive score
of 49-6.
The North Shore offensive unit started the game with a long drive down
the field and capped it off with running back Eric Locas scoring the
first of his two TD's of the night on a 20 yard run into the St.
Leonard endzone. From that point on there was no looking back for
the Lions as the scoring continued with first year running back Andrew
Hopkins carrying the ball for his first time as a Lion on a 50 yard
dash downfield for his first of 2 TD's last night. More offensive
scores came from receiver Simon Lacroix on a nice 25 yard pass and run
play from QB Maxx St. James for a TD and running back Sammy Mesidor on
a spectacular 80 yard sprint to the goal line. Kicker Shaquille
Lattimore was perfect on 7 convert attempts.
Lattimore also had a whale of a game on defense as he came up with two
interceptions, one of which he ran back 80 yards for a TD. Nick
Gaudreault got another interception of his own while linebacker Mark
Baroudi came up with a fumble recovery. Defensive ends Kyle
Macgregor and Mark Continelli each got their first QB sacks of the
season while Greg Lee was a dominant force at his linebacker spot
making 5 solo tackles to stop the St. Leonard running game.
The Lions will be playing against Greenfield Park this Wednesday night,
August 22nd at 8:00 PM at Riverdale. This will be the game that
was originally scheduled to be played on August 10th but got postponed.
